On February 29, 2004 the Toronto Maple Leafs held its first annual gala to raise money for Go! Kids Go! The Leafs Fund grantees. A black-tie affair held at Toronto’s historic The Carlu, the evening was hosted by Joe Bowen, voice of the Toronto Maple Leafs and actor Albert Schultz. With the entire team and coaching staff in attendance, attendees had a rare chance to spend time with their favourite Leafs players.
The evening featured a spectacular line-up of well-known Canadian musicians from a wide range of genres: The Tragically Hip’s Gord Downie & Paul Langlois, Jim Cuddy from Blue Rodeo, operatic tenor Richard Margison, musical theatre icon Michael Burgess, jazz musician Denzal Sinclaire, jazz pianist Ron Davis, and Canadian Idol winner Ryan Malcolm.
Go! Kids Go! The Leafs Fund is the charitable fundraising arm of the Toronto Maple Leafs and is committed to supporting children’s charities and important community initiatives throughout Toronto. At the 2004 gala, funds were raised for Covenant House, The Stop, Ground Level Youth Ventures and Sketch.
MJC coordinated the talent for the gala evening and provided logistical support during the event.
