The inaugural year of Toronto’s highly-popular Luminato Festival featured LUNA, a celebration of Canada’s rich operatic talent on June 8, 2007 at Roy Thomson Hall.

LUNA showcased ten extraordinary singers with members of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra led by conductor Giordano Bellincampi, together performing some of opera’s greatest arias and ensembles. Internationally renowned singers Isabel Bayrakdarian, Russell Braun, Richard Margison, Adrianne Pieczonka and Sondra Radvanovsky were joined by the next generation of stars — Joni Henson, Joseph Kaiser, Peter Barrett, Robert Gleadow and Robert Pomakov.

The theme of the programme was a tribute to one of the most romantic images in the world – the moon — LUNA featuring such arias as Bellini’s “Casta Diva” from Norma, and Rusalka’s “Song to the Moon”. The programme also includes “Song to the Evening Star” from Tannhäuser, Leporello’s catalogue aria from Don Giovanni, duets from Barber of Seville and I Puritani and the famous trio from Il Trovatore.

MJC coordinated the public relations for LUNA, including press conferences, press releases, materials, all media and interview requests.
