Held in Pienza, Italy, the third annual Benvenuto Franci Opera Competition will take place October 13-15, 2011. Applications are now open.

Named for one of Italy’s internationally renowned baritones – Benvenuto Franci, the first two elimination rounds are held in the Sala Convegni E. Balducci of the San Carlo Borromeo Conservatory in Pienza.  The final competition round, held in the Church of San Francesco, is presented as a free gala concert open to the public. The prestigious jury is led by Adua Veroni, a major figure in the opera world in Italy and an enthusiastic supporter of young lyric talent. The 2011 competition is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy. In 2010, Pienza welcomed 108 singers from 16 different countries.  For three days, the streets were alive with their voices and excitement giving this Renaissance jewel and UNESCO heritage site a very special atmosphere.
