Baritone Vito Priante’s voice has been described as elegant and burnished, stylish and seductive, agile and lively.  A rising operatic star, he has performed across Europe in venerable theatres including La Scala in Milan, the State Operas in Vienna, Munich, Berlin, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Opéra de Lyon, ROH Covent Garden, Barcelona, the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, at the Salzburg and Edinburgh festivals, and with internationally renowned conductors Riccardo Muti, Daniel Barenboim, Ivor Bolton, and Daniel Harding among others.

PERFORMANCES

The 2016-2017 season sees Vito returns to London’s Royal Opera House Covent Garden in one of his most acclaimed roles, Figaro in a revival of the ROH production of Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia directed by Moshe Leiser & Patrice Caurier. He also appears as Guglielmo in a new production of Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma and as Silvio in the Opera National du Rhin’s production of Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci.

Last season Vito made a highly successful debut with the Lyric Opera of Chicago as Dandini in La Cenerentola, a role he reprised at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. He also appeared as Alphonse XI in Donizetti’s La Favorite at La Fenice in Venice, in a concert performance in the title role of Le Nozze di Figaro at the Konzerthaus in Dortmund, and in Rome singing Fauré’s Requiem with the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, conducted by Antonio Pappano.

RECENT HIGHLIGHTS

Recent performances include performances as Figaro at the Glyndebourne Festival’s and in Venice, the title role in Dallapiccola’s Il Prigioniero at Madrid’s Teatro Real, Dandini in La Cenerentola in both Vienna and Los Angeles. In the last few seasons he also debuted at the Maggio Musicale in Florence as Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, at Berlin’s Staatsoper im Schiller in Le Nozze di Figaro conducted by Daniel Barenboim and as the poet Prosdocimo in Rossini’s Il Turco in Italia at the Nederlandse Opera. Vito has appeared as Il Dissoluto in Corghi’s Il Dissoluto assolto at Teatro alla Scala, Leone in Handel’s Tamerlano at the Liceu in Barcelona, Figaro in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro  at the Théätre des Champs Elysées in Paris led by Marc Minkowsky, at the Salzburg Festival, and La Fenice in Venice where he also performed Leporello in Mozart’s Don Giovanni. Silvio in I Pagliacci and Publio in Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito have taken him to Salerno and Lyon, respectively.

In demand as a concert artist, he has performed with Riccardo Muti in Jommelli’s oratorio Betulia Liberata, Handel’s Messiah and in Mozart’s Requiem at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, in Haydn’s Stabat Mater conducted by Ivor Bolton at the Salzburg Festival and in Armida with Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw.

Vito’s discography includes Handel’s Rodelinda & Floridante (DGG), Donizetti’s Pietro il Grande (Dynamic), Cherubini’s Lo sposo di tre e marito di nessuna  (Dynamic), Vivaldi’s Motezuma (DGG).  He is also featured on the 2012 Glyndbourne Festival’s highly successful production of Le Nozze di Figaro.

BACKGROUND

Born in Naples, Vito Priante graduated in 2003 from the Oriental Institute at Naples University with a Major in French and German Literature. In 2002 he made his professional debut in Pergolesi’s La Serva Padrona, under the musical direction of Arnold Bosman at  Florence’s Teatro Goldoni, presented by the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and has since gone on to sing on major international stages.  Having been highly acclaimed for his performances in the Baroque and Classical repertoire, he is now moving into Belcanto roles.  In 2008 he was awarded the XXVIII Franco Abbiati Prize for his interpretation of the title role in Dallapiccola’s Il Prigioniero at Milan’s Teatro alla Scala conducted by Daniel Harding and  directed by Peter Stein.

Vito currently lives in Paris.
