Moira Johnson - Biography

Capitalizing on over 25 years experience in the arts, Moira Johnson created this specialized agency in 1999. Her artist roster features some of Canada 's leading opera singers: Michael Schade (tenor), Russell Braun (baritone), Richard Margison (tenor), Adrianne Pieczonka (soprano), Shannon Mercer (soprano), American/Canadian soprano Sondra Radvanovsky; as well as superb instrumentalists: brilliant young Canadian violinist James Ehnes, German cellist Jan Vogler, American contemporary pianist Andrew Russo, and rising star Italian conductor Giovanni Reggioli.

Prior to creating her own agency, Moira Johnson was based in Paris, France (1995-1998) where she worked independently to promote Canadian musicians and artists including the launch of new recordings, the organization and promotion of concerts and networking with agents and local presenters. During her time in Paris, Ms. Johnson also wrote a regular column on cultural events for Paris Notes, a California-based newsletter devoted to people who love Paris. She also created Travel à la Carte, a small business to research and plan trips to France and Italy for individuals who wanted to see more than just major tourism attractions. Using her knowledge and experience gained from over 20 years of travelling in France and Italy, Moira Johnson was able to plan trips oriented around medieval tapestries, famous restaurants, contemporary art (including access to private art collections, cooking classes, etc.)

Moira Johnson also worked in Paris in the 1980's as the Cultural Consultant to the Ontario Delegation, with responsibility for promoting Ontario-based artists in all disciplines throughout France and Italy.

During her varied, but always challenging career, Ms. Johnson has also been the Director of Marketing and Communications at the National Arts Centre (1989-1991), Communications Specialist at the Canada Council, Director of Communications for the 1989 International Choral Festival ( Toronto ) and the 1999 Strings of the Future Festival ( Ottawa ). One of her most challenging and exciting achievements was the organization of the twenty-three events to celebrate the opening of the new National Gallery of Canada in 1988.
